New Academy Starts in March

Thank you for your interest in the Olympia Police Department’s Citizen’s Academy! It is our goal to build community trust and relationships through this program. The Academy is scheduled to run for 7 weeks and includes 8 sessions. Each session covers multiple topics and provides interactive, hands on experience.

Sessions begin Thursday, March 28 from 6-9 p.m. and continue each Thursday night through May 9. There will be a final all-day session on Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. that includes a graduation celebration.

A commitment to attend ALL sessions is expected.

Acceptance Criteria

To be accepted, applicants must successfully pass both a criminal history and driver’s license check. Probable dis-qualifiers include:

  • Convictions for an felony offense in Washington State.
  • Convictions for a misdemeanor offense in the past five (5) years.
  • Convictions for any domestic violence offense.
  • Convictions for any offense that shows aggression toward or disrespect for police officers.

Acceptions can be made. For any extenuating or unique circumstances related to acceptance into the Academy, contact Sgt. Amy King at 360.753.8300 or Circumstances will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

How to Apply

Complete and sign the application and waiver (below) and email to Rebekah Ziesemer at no later than Friday, March 1st. You will be notified by e-mail of your acceptance status.
