New Academy Starts in March
Thank you for your interest in the Olympia Police Department’s Community Academy! It is our goal to build community trust and relationships through this program. The Academy is scheduled to run for 7 weeks and includes 8 sessions. Each session covers multiple topics and provides interactive, hands on experience.
Sessions typically run from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday evenings for 7 consecutive weeks, with a final all-day session on a Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. that includes a graduation celebration. Due to COVID safety concerns we are in the process of adjusting the academy structure to allow for social distancing and possible hybrid sessions.
A commitment to attend all sessions is expected.
To be accepted, applicants must successfully pass both a criminal history and driver’s license check. Probable dis-qualifiers include:
- Convictions for a felony offense in Washington State.
- Convictions for a misdemeanor offense in the past five (5) years.
- Convictions for any domestic violence offense.
- Convictions for any offense that shows aggression toward or disrespect for police officers.
Exceptions can be made. For any extenuating or unique circumstances related to acceptance into the academy, contact Lt. Amy King at 360.753.8300 or email@example.com. Circumstances will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
