The Olympia Timberland Library building at 313 - 8th Avenue SE is owned by the City of Olympia. Library services are provided by the Timberland Regional Library system. At the request of the Olympia City Council, Timberland conducted a public opinion telephone survey about the Olympia facility. Six hundred (600) interviews were completed between July 13-18, 2007.

- Almost 70% of respondents said "quality public libraries" are strongly correlated to an excellent quality of life.
- 60% of respondents said the current downtown library would not be meeting the needs of the community in the next 5-10 years.
- 40% of respondents supported building a second library branch in Olympia and 33% supported expanding or relocating the downtown library.
- If a second library is built on Olympia's westside, there is citywide support (76%) for a branch on the westside.
