Structure Fire - 4230 Park Drive SW
At 20 minutes after midnight on the morning of July 2, 2012, the Olympia Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at 4230 Park DR SW. A guest at the residence heard a smoke detector in the garage, looked outside and saw the fire. She alerted the residents of the main home and another resident in a separate building. 9-1-1 was called as one of the residents attempted to slow the fire with a garden hose. The fire, which appeared to have started outside the garage was able to burn through the wall into the garage and attic space but was stopped by firefighters before it could reach the living portion of the house. Everyone left the structure prior to the arrival of the Olympia Firefighters 7 minutes after the initial call. Firefighters were able to assist the resident in retrieving their scared but uninjured dog from the home.
Initial arriving crews reported fire and smoke from the back of a 1700 square foot structure with an attached garage. Firefighters attacked the fire from the front of the garage, extinguishing fire that appeared to have started outside and burned its way into the attic. Additional firefighters went to the roof to check for any fire in the attic. Fire was contained to the garage and attic and did not spread. Fire was reported out at 12:46 AM. There were no injuries to firefighters or residents.
This fire response included four Olympia Engine Companies, one Ladder Company, two Medic Units, and a Command Unit. Lacey Fire District 3 sent one Engine to the fire but that unit was diverted to handle an aid call in downtown Olympia at the same time as the fire.
Units remain on scene to complete overhaul and begin the fire investigation to determine the cause of the fire. At this time the cause is undetermined. Property loss is estimated at $30,000. Smoke alarms and quick action by the residents and firefighters prevented this fire from being much worse. For further information contact Olympia Fire Department 360-753-8348.
