Structure Fire

Olympia Firefighters responded to a structure fire in the 2900 block of McCormick St SE at 12:49 am, Thursday morning, November 2, 2017.  The first engine arrived 5 minutes later and found a medium sized, 1 story house with a working fire in the attached garage. The homeowners had awakened to the smoke detector, and when they saw the fire they escaped with their two dogs and called 911.

The fire was confined to one wall of the garage and was stopped before it could extend into the house or attic.  The car in the garage was saved.  Fire was declared under control at 1:03 am. Fire units continued to perform salvage, overhaul and tend to the homeowners needs for the next hour.

Olympia Fire Department responded with 4 engines, 1 ladder truck, 2 medic units, and a command unit.  There were no injuries to firefighters, occupants or pets. Damage to structure and contents is estimated at $45,000. Fire and smoke damage was mostly contained to the attached garage.

The cause of the fire appears to have been an electrical issue in the garage.
