Construction Begins on Boulevard Rd & Morse-Merryman Roundabout Project

What’s Happening

Beginning Monday, September 11, Puget Sound Energy (PSE) will begin relocating power poles within the project area in order to accommodate the City’s Boulevard Rd & Morse-Merryman Roundabout project improvements. PSE’s work is expected to take 2 weeks. Then starting on September 25, the City's contractor, Active Construction Inc., will begin construction of the Boulevard Road & Morse-Merryman Roundabout. This project will be completed in two phases:

·       Phase 1 (September 25, 2017 to Mid-October 2017) - The contractor will complete initial road preparation work including clearing & grubbing within the project limits, road widening, and water installation work.

·       Contract Suspension (Mid-October 2017 to Mid-April 2018) - The contractor will then suspend work. Exact dates will depend upon weather.

·       Phase 2 (Mid-April 2018 to September 2018) The contractor will finish any remaining road preparation work, and will complete the roadway improvements.

Once completed, the new roundabout will include sidewalk, crosswalks, planter strips; bike lanes, ornamental street lighting, stormwater system improvements including construction of a new stormwater treatment pond, and the undergrounding of overhead utilities within the project area.

Traffic Impacts

Boulevard Rd & Morse-Merryman Rd will be open for traffic during construction though travelers should expect periodic lane closures and traffic delays. Traffic control and flaggers will be in place, so please use caution when traveling through the area. Motorists are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes when possible to avoid the construction area.

City staff and our contractor will be working together to provide a safe work environment and successful solution for increased pedestrian capacity and safety, and improved traffic flow for the Boulevard Road Corridor.
