Thurston County Fair Housing Survey

The Housing Authority of Thurston County, Thurston County, and the City of Olympia are partnering to conduct a fair housing study known as the “Assessment of Fair Housing” (AFH). This study is required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as a condition for receiving federal housing and community development funds.  Residents of Thurston County are encouraged and to take the survey to help identify any barriers that may limit fair housing choice and access to opportunity in Thurston County.

The “Thurston County Fair Housing Survey” can be found at:

Residents can also find a link to the survey on the City of Olympia website at:

All residents of Thurston County are invited to take a short five to ten minute survey to provide information that will help the partnering entities consider the issues, prioritize strategies and make a plan to improve access to housing for everyone.  All answers will be confidential and will only be reported together with other responses.

The goals of this study are to identify whether barriers to fair housing choice exist in Thurston County’s rental and real estate markets, and to better understand the instances of housing discrimination that Thurston County residents are experiencing.

Fair housing choice is protected by federal and state fair housing laws that ensure that each resident is entitled to equal access to housing opportunities regardless of race, color, religion/creed, sex national origin, disability, service animal, gender identity, familial status, marital status, sexual orientation, or military/veteran status.
