Road Resurfacing (Chip Sealing) Begins Thursday

Starting Thursday, August 3 and continuing through Saturday, August 5 (weather permitting), the City’s contractor will be chip sealing several streets in Olympia. Chip sealing will restore the existing pavement and extend the life of the street. After chip sealing is completed, the roads will be swept to pick up excess gravel. The contractor will then return at a later date to apply a fog seal to the new chip sealed roads and to restripe the roadways. The chip seal schedule is shown below:

Thursday, August 3  (7 a.m. – 1 p.m.)

·       Walnut Road (from Division Street to Ethel Street)

·       Cooper Pt Road - Auto-Mall Drive (from Black Lake Boulevard to Caton Way)

Friday, August 4   (7 a.m. – 1 p.m.)

·       Walnut Road (from Division Street to Ethel Street)

·       14th Avenue (from Kaiser Road to Cooper Pt Road)

·       State Avenue (from Quince Street to Tullis Street)

Saturday, August 5  (7 a.m. – 5 p.m.)

·       Harrison Avenue (from Division Street to West Bay Drive)

Motorist should expect lane restrictions and traffic delays during chip sealing operations. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work area. Please drive with slower speeds through the newly chip sealed areas as there will be some loose rock on the roads. Access to driveways and side streets may be temporarily disrupted during chip sealing. Vehicles parked on the shoulder during chip sealing operation are subject to towing.
