Structure Fire

Olympia Firefighters responded to a structure fire in the 1500 block of Fir St. NE at 12:44 am this morning.  The fire was called in by the resident and neighbors.  The residents were already outside when the first fire unit arrived at 12:51

Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire from inside and outside of the garage extending into the house on the first and second floor, a vehicle and a RV in the driveway.  Firefighters were able to enter and quickly knock down the majority of the fire.  They continued to chase fire through the walls until about 1:30 am when the fire was out.  Crews continued working to find hot spots and hidden fire.  The 8 residents had exited with one dog.  Another dog and two tortoises were found by firefighters and brought to the family along with other small animals.

A vehicle outside the garage and a tent trailer were destroyed by the fire.  The adjoining house had some singeing and smoke damage and one vehicle parked at that home received some damage from heat.

Olympia Fire Department responded with 4 engines, 1 ladder truck, 2 medic units, and a command unit.  There were no injuries to firefighters or residents.

Fire crews will remain on scene to secure the structure and possessions.  The fire is being investigated but there are no details yet on the cause.  Damage of the structure, possessions and vehicles is estimated at between $150,000 and $200,000.
