Olympia Firefighters responded to a structure fire in the 1600 block of Miller Ave NE at 8:12 pm, Wednesday evening, June 27, 2018. The first Battalion Chief and engine arrived 5 minutes later and found a medium-sized, 1 ½ story house with a working fire with smoke issuing from all sides. There were two residents home at the time and each had escaped on opposite sides of the house. Both residents needed some medical care on the scene and were then transported to the hospital.

The heaviest fire damage was on the first floor. The entire residence was affected by heat and smoke. The fire was declared “knocked down” at 8:28 pm. Fire units continued to perform salvage and overhaul for the next few hours. An OFD fire investigation team was called to the scene.

Olympia Fire Department responded with 4 engines, 1 ladder truck, 2 medic units, and a command unit. Damage to structure and contents is estimated at $150,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
