Residents Encouraged to Keep Emergency Kits

City residence should keep emergency kits in event of a disaster

The City of Olympia encourages all residents to keep emergency supply kits in their home for their families. After an emergency, you may need to survive on your own for several days. Being prepared means having your own food, water and other supplies to last for at least 72 hours – working toward two weeks.

Most items in a kit are inexpensive and easy to find, and could save lives during a disaster. Emergency kits should include basics like food, water, flashlights and batteries.  They should also hold items for any unique needs, such as prescription medications and baby formula.
