OPD Release Video from Bus Station Incident

City of Olympia Launches Webpage

The investigation into the death of the man being held by Olympia Police on February 29, 2016 is on-going. The death occurred when a man was in custody for assaulting employees at the Intercity Transit station in downtown Olympia. A regional investigation team, the Thurston Regional Critical Incident Team (CIT), is investigating the incident. The CIT finished processing the crime scene last night and the transit station is back to normal operations today. The coroner has not yet determined the cause of death and the man’s identity has not yet been released.

The Olympia Police Department has launched a webpage with information about the event bit.ly/IT-Incident . The webpage contains:

  • Two news releases, published yesterday, that outline the details of the event.
  • An audio recording of the call received by 9-1-1 by an employee of Intercity Transit.
  • A security video from the exterior of the Intercity Transit station showing police interactions with the deceased.

The Olympia Police Department is committed to maintaining transparency with the public. As more details about the incident become available, they will be added to the website, along with other information the public may find useful in understanding police procedures.
