Urban Forestry

Olympia’s urban forest is the forest we live in — it is our tree-lined streets, our canopied downtown, our natural areas, and the trees in our own backyards.  Urban Forestry is the science and art of ensuring our trees are healthy, diverse, and here to benefit future generations.

The City of Olympia has a long tradition of urban forestry.  Olympia has been a "Tree City USA" for 14 years, as well as receiving 5 National Arbor Day Foundation Growth Awards for outstanding urban forestry initiatives between 1995 and 2006.  Olympia's Urban Forestry Program also received the Association of Washington Cities' Certificate of Excellence in 2007 for its "Healthy Urban Forests for Everyone!" outreach program.
