The City of Olympia offers health benefits to regular full-time and regular part-time employees and their eligible family members. These health benefit plans are also extended to employee’s domestic partners and their eligible children. The City of Olympia does not offer health benefits to temporary or emergency hires.
The City of Olympia is a member of the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) Employee Benefit Trust. The City and AWC have a strong commitment to promoting a safe, healthy and happy workforce.
Eligibility
Health benefits for regular full-time and part-time employees and their eligible family members begin the first day of the month following the start of employment.
Medical Plans
The City offers both AWC Regence Health First and Group Health Cooperative medical plans to choose from. Both plans offer comprehensive health and medical coverage.
Dental Plan
Dental benefits are provided through the Washington Dental Service.
Vision Plan
Vision benefits are provided through the Vision Service Plan.
Paid Leave
New employees will accrue eight hours of vacation and eight hours of sick leave per month.

Retirement Benefits
The City offers retirement plans for all eligible employees through the State of Washington’s Department of Retirement Systems. Police Officers and Firefighters become members of the Law Enforcement Officers and FireFighters Retirement Systems, while other eligible regular employees become members of the Public Employees Retirement System or the Public Safety Employees Retirement System. These plans require both employee and employer contributions.
