Capitol Lake - Its Future (CLAMP)

Overview

Capitol Lake is managed by the Washington State Department of General Administration (GA).

Several years ago, State GA formed a nine-person group of state, local and tribal representatives to review lake issues and recommend long-term plans to improve its environment. The group is called the Capitol Lake Adaptive Management Plan steering committee (CLAMP). The City of Olympia is represented on the committee by Councilmember Joe Hyer. The committee is advisory to the Director of the State Department of General Administration.

In summer 2009, CLAMP prepared a report to forward to the Director of State General Administration.

The decision about Capitol Lake's future rests with the State, not the City; though the Olympia City Council has an opportunity - through participation on the CLAMP steering committee - to provide input to the Director of General Administration about the management of Capitol Lake.

Capitol Lake - Olympia's Role in the Process

Olympia is a member of the advisory committee, and does not have a decisionmaking role with regards to Capitol Lake.
