This westside park is named after Sam Woodruff who was born in China in 1858. He returned to Olympia and made his living as a printer and bookseller. Woodruff was one of our early developers and conveyed the Woodruff Park land to the City of Olympia in 1892 for $1.00.
A new sprayground, upgrade to parking and restroom for ADA accessibility, asphalt pathways, and a picnic shelter will be constructed by Summer 2019. The City was successful in receiving a $446,380 matching grant from the Washington State Recreation & Conservation Office (RCO) for this project. In 2017, three sprayground designs were presented and based on public feedback, Design C was voted the overall winner and will be installed. View Final Design (2MB PDF)
We will also be upgrading the tennis courts at Woodruff Park to include a new surface, pickleball and tennis lines, and a new fence. The goal is to have this work completed by Fall 2019. This project is funded through our Capital Asset Management Program (CAMP).
