Rake a Drain - You Can Help Prevent Flooding
City crews work to keep storm drains clear, but with approximately 10,000 drains in Olympia, we could use your help! Leaves, sand and other debris can clog storm drains and cause local flooding.
- If minor flooding occurs, use a garden rake or shovel and remove the leaves from the storm drain and dispose of them.
- Remember, safety first - if you feel it is unsafe, or flooding is severe, contact Public Works emergency dispatch for assistance at 360.753.8333, Option 0. Reminder ... it is illegal to rake yard and leaf debris into the street. Consider composting leaves and other organic material.
