NTMP - Two-Lane Narrow Point
The City of Olympia has four type of approved traffic-calming devices. One includes the Two-Lane Narrow Point. The other devices available include 14-Foot Speed Cushion, Bulb-Out, and One-Lane Narrow Point.
Overview for Two-Lane Narrow Point:
Two-lane narrow points are traffic-calming devices with raised center medians which create a visual affect that makes the street more visually restrictive. Unlike a one-lane narrow point, the two-lane narrow point accommodates two-way traffic. The landscaping is maintained by adjacent property owners or neighborhood association.
This device works well as an entrance treatment to a neighborhood to inform drivers they are transitioning from a higher-speed roadway to a low-speed, pedestrian-oriented area. Note, device can be installed with vegetation.
Advantages & Disadvantages:
- Advantages: Works well in combination with other devices. Works well on emergency services main response routes.
