  • Sunrise Dog Park will close permanently May 31.  While a replacement site has not yet been secured, staff is continuing to pursue all options to find a new location.  Removal of the fencing around the Sunrise Park off-leash dog area will begin on June 1, 2013. The fencing materials will be re-used on a future project.
  • City Council agreed with PRAC Recommendation. On Tuesday, February 5, 2013, the Olympia City Council voted to proceed with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee (PRAC) recommendation on off-leash dog parks.  City staff will proceed with siting and construction of a westside off-leash dog park.  Read complete PRAC recommendation.     
  • Citizen Task Force makes recommendation to Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee (PRAC).  A special PRAC meeting was held on December 17 to discuss the Citizen Task Force recommendation for new off-leash dog area sites and the proposed Sunrise Park off-leash dog area closure timeline.  PRAC will forward their recommendation to the City Council in January.  Citizen Task Force Recommendation Letter
  • Olympia's New Off-Leash Dog Park Task Force.  Eleven citizens, including a member from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and Sound Hounds, have volunteered to participate.  The task force will meet to discuss potential site locations and create site selection criteria.  Please contact Dave Okerlund, Parks Planning Manager, at 360.570.5855 or dokerlun@ci.olympia.wa.us for more information.
  • One Year Operational Review.  The City of Olympia Parks, Arts and Recreation Department is in the process of conducting a one-year operational review of the Sunrise Park off-leash dog area.  The City has held two public meetings this year.
