Artesian Well and Commons

The Artesian Commons in Downtown Olympia

About the Artesian Commons

Located at 415 4th Ave SE, the Artesian Commons is Olympia’s first downtown park. The park includes a free flowing artesian well that is a widely known historic landmark. The .2 acre site is a central destination in downtown Olympia, with a basketball hoop, 24-hour bathroom, and picnic tables.

The City has partnered with many local businesses and non-profits to bring positive, daily programming and events to the space. Improvements to the site are ongoing, with the ultimate goal of creating a space that is safe and welcoming for all.

The Artesian Commons park is open from dawn to dusk. The Artesian Well itself is open 24/7.

Daily activities at the Commons include basketball, chess & checkers, art and reading materials. During spring and summer, the City and its partners host many great, family-friendly events including The Bridge concert series, skateboarding, local music and movie nights.

Well Host and Park Ranger

Our Well Hosts are on site 7 days a week to provide a welcoming presence to all park and well users and facilitate fun and engaging activities. Our Park Rangers educate and enforce park rules and regulations and have the authority to trespass guests that repeatedly violate park rules or make the park unsafe for others.
