The following list of Restricted Parking violations is taken from the Olympia Municipal Code 10.16.220 and will result in a $75 fine (unless otherwise noted) and is up-to-date as of August 2012. You may also view the entire Olympia Municipal Code online.


Parking is prohibited...


You must not park within a yellow zone, even one tire in will result in a citation.

Parking against the flow of traffic is prohibited at all times.

Both tires must lie within the stall markings. If your vehicle doesn't fit, find another space.

Parking on the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the curb is prohibited.

The planting strip is the grassy area between the sidewalk and the curb

You may not block or park within 5 feet of any driveway, including your own.

Blocking even your own driveway is prohibited because it can impede emergency response vehicles

Unless otherwise marked, you may not park within 30 feet of a stop sign.

Unmarked crosswalks exist anywhere the sidewalk meets the street

Unmarked crosswalks can be at intersections or mid-block. They are located anywhere the sidewalk meets the street.

Double parking is not permitted at any time

Back-in parking spaces are located near Sylvester Park

Currently the only Back-In Parking Only in Olympia is located on 7th Avenue between Columbia and Sylvester and Sylvester between 7th and Legion

  • On any street in such a manner as to block or interfere with free use of the street, alley or driveway
  • Within an intersection
  • Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant  
  • At any place where official signs prohibit stopping or parking
  • Along side any street excavation or obstruction, when doing so would obstruct traffic
  • Upon any bridge, highway overpass, tunnel, or underpass
  • In any marked or designated bus zone, or within 30 feet of a posted bus stop sign
  • Within 30 feet of a railroad crossing
  • Within 50 feet of the driveway entrance to any fire or police station, or within 75 feet of the same entrance on the opposite street if signed
  • Within six hundred feet of any place where a fire is in progress
