Station 4 and Training Center - 7/28/2009
The first “site work” at the new fire station, 3525 Stoll Road (the corner of Stoll and Lilly) took place in late July. The site had five large redwood trees that were unfortunately growing right in the middle of the new structure.
Since the trees could not be saved (one even had significant lightning damage) they were cut down.
Rather than lose the resource, the wood is being milled into fence boards and will return to the site as a fencing along the south and west property lines and around the water retention facility. Redwood is similar to cedar in that it provides a sturdy, low maintenance fence that will serve the facility well and is a chance to use/re-use local materials on the project.
Building demolition of the existing structure is next on the list of visible work for the site. Behind the scenes, building design is complete and permits required for land use and building are being completed. Actual construction is slated to begin in April of 2010.
