What We Do
By working in partnership with the citizens of Olympia to promote and maintain a safe and desirable living and working environment, we help maintain or improve the quality of our community by enforcing laws and codes targeted to solve specific problems within the community, such as:
- Public nuisances: trash, debris, overgrown vegetation encroaching the right-of-way, and inoperable and unlicensed vehicles on private property.
- Zoning or land use violations.
- Substandard or dangerous buildings.
- Loud noise, which unreasonably disturbs others.
- Dangerous property conditions, such as:
- Leaving toxic chemicals in an unenclosed space where they may be accessed by children or pets
- Leaving large open holes or pits that poses a risk to others
Reporting a Violation
Many complaints that are made to Code Enforcement Officers are not violations of the Olympia Municipal Code. If you have a complaint, please view the Neighborhood Resource List for common issues and who can assist you before contacting us.
If you would like to report a possible Code Violation, please download the Code Enforcement Complaint form, complete the information, and mail it to us at the address at the top of the form. A staff member will contact you to discuss your complaint.
What Happens After I Report a Violation?
Typically, a Code Enforcement Officer will visit the site of the violation within 48 hours of the City receiving the complaint. The Officer will evaluate the situation, possibly take pictures, and determine whether a violation has occurred.
