Lee Creighton Justice Center

Background

The Lee Creighton Justice Center is located at 900 Plum Street SE (corner of Plum and 8th), the site of Olympia's former City Hall. Housed at the Center are the Municipal Court/Parking Service Administrative Offices, the Courtroom, Olympia Municipal Jail, Olympia Probation Serivces, and the City Prosecutor's Office. The Olympia Police Department is located at the new City Hall, 601 4th Avenue E, Olympia.

Olympia's criminal justice system consists of the Police Department, City Prosecutor, and the Municipal Court / Probation Services. On September 28, 2012, the Honorable Scott Ahlf - Municipal Court Judge, Paul Wohl - City Prosecutor, and Ronnie Roberts - Police Chief presented a briefing to the Olympia City Council on the city's system.

Jurisdiction

The Olympia Municipal Court is a court of limited jurisdiction. The Municipal Court Judge is authorized by Washington State Statute to preside over the following types of cases: non-traffic infractions, traffic infractions, criminal misdemeanors and gross misdemeanors, and orders for protection for victims of domestic violence. The Municipal Court schedules arraignments, pre-trial hearings, non-jury and jury trials, sentencings, reviews, etc. The Municipal Court coordinates related services including legal representation for indigent persons, probation, and interpreter services.

If you received a citation issued by the City of Olympia Police Department, Code Enforcement Officer, or Animal Services for a misdemeanor or gross misdemeanor criminal offense, traffic infraction or code violation that occurred in the city limits, your ticket will be filed in the Olympia Municipal Court. Court appearances are held in the Council Chambers building located at the Lee Creighton Justice Center at 900 Plum Street SE.
