Frequently Asked Questions


The rink is 4,000 sq. ft. with a max capacity of 125 skaters. This may change for the 2019/2020 season.

Our rink size is comparable to other seasonal rinks of similar community sizes and in their first year of operation. In other locations, peak times are 5-8 p.m., and can be especially busy on weekend evenings. Attendance also begins to increase as the holidays approach. If you’d prefer to skate when it’s less crowded, morning hours are likely to be a little less busy.

No! Our motto is "if you can walk, you can skate." We do ask that anyone under the age of 12 be accompanied by an adult. PLEASE NOTE: PARENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CARRY THEIR CHILDREN WHILE SKATING.

As you might expect, to ensure the ice stays frozen, it means it’s also cold under the tent! Please be sure to dress in layers so you’ll stay nice and warm, whether skating or just watching. Also, as condensation builds up in the rink, water does drip down from the tent structure above from time to time. We recommend wearing a hat and or raincoat with a hood to keep yourself nice and dry.

Yes! We know that weather in Olympia is unpredictable, that's why the ice rink is housed under a tent with retractable sides to protect the skaters and the ice from the elements.

Yes! We will have temporary restrooms available during the run of the ice rink.

Yes, we offer both. However, due to the size of the rink, we will not be able to any hockey this year.

We have skates from Toddler 9 to Adult 14. We do offer double-runners for children under the age of 4. Structured shoes, like sneakers or boots, are required for clamp on double-runners.

We offer double-runner skates in toddler sizes. We have a very limited number of skate aids that are available to rent and are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Yes, some equipment is available for those who need accommodations. Please contact the rink at olympia@icerinkevents.com to discuss your specific equipment needs.

Hockey is an active and fast moving game. Pucks can and do leave the surface. Oly on Ice is not equipped to accomodate the game or to protect spectators and property from the elements of the game.

Yes! There is no cost to come and watch. We will have limited seating available for skaters to change their shoes, you are welcome to sit and watch when they are not in use. You can also stand and watch outside the rink.

Gift certificates are available for purchase at the rink during regular operating hours.

The Isthmus Park will be returned to its year-round state. The tent, decking and ice rink equipment are all rentals and will be removed by the end of January.

No. Smoking is banned in all City of Olympia parks.
