Olympia Planning Commission

The Olympia Planning Commission was formed in 1935 to advise the City Council on the long range growth and development of Olympia, including changes to the City's Comprehensive Plan and zoning ordinance.

Membership Criteria

Nine (9) members, of which a majority must be residents of the City of Olympia or Olympia's Urban Growth Area.

Meeting Date, Time, Place

The Commission normally meets the 1st and 3rd Mondays each month. Due to holidays in January, February and September, the Commission meets the 2nd and 4th Mondays. Meetings start at 6:30 p.m. and are held at Olympia City Hall, 601 4th Avenue East, unless otherwise noticed. Check the online City of Olympia calendar for more information, Calendar.

"Special meetings" of the Commission are limited to agenda items as noted. A quorum may or not be present. Lacking a quorum any action will be limited to a subcommittee recommendation.

This Commission has a heavy workload with significant advance reading and meeting preparation. The Commission also has committees, and Planning Commissioners serve as liaisons to several other City advisory committees.

The Planning Commission conducts public hearings and other forums throughout the year to seek public input on items before the Commission for consideration.
