Crime Map Updates

Notable Trends

  • We are watching two residential burglary trends. One is primarily of garages in the NE area. The other is in the neighborhood just west of Olympia High School, after three burglaries on Monday. These were daytime burglaries and entry was made through a door or window in the back of the house in each case. These crooks might be knocking first to see if someone is home. Don't open your door to strangers, but let them know you're there. If the person gives you a weird excuse, call dispatch and share the information with neighbors. We'll be patrolling the areas more frequently.
  • We looked at monthly trends this week. Auto thefts are happening primarily Downtown and in the Fern St area on the Westside.
  • Felony assaults and vehicle prowls are up from 2013 levels, but robbery, rape, residential burglary and auto thefts are down. Commercial burglary numbers are about the same. We continue to solve cases at levels well above the national average.

Other Items

  • Our officers did a really cool sting operation and nabbed three bicycle thieves Monday night. Read about it in Stories from the Street.
  • Below is a map of narcotics cases from June through August this year. We've had 32 cases Downtown, or about 10 per month. In Downtown, arrests for narcotics often happen after contact for a nuisance crime. By far, methamphetamine is the illegal substance that's found - about 50% of Downtown cases and 60-70% overall.

Thanks, Amy
